NEET UG

NEET UG, or National Eligibility and Entrance Test for Undergraduates, is India’s single admissions portal for undergraduate medical programs such as MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts it annually to standardise the selection procedure for government and private medical colleges.

The test consists of 200 multiple-choice questions divided into three sections: Physics (50), Chemistry (50), and Biology (100, including Botany and Zoology), with a total of 720 points and a 3-hour pen-and-paper timeframe. Section A contains 45 necessary questions per subject, whereas Section B contains 15 optional questions, with candidates attempting ten. It is available in thirteen languages, including English, Hindi, and regional alternatives like as Tamil and Telugu.

Candidates must pass Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English, with a minimum aggregate score of 50% in these courses for the general category (40% for reserved categories). As long as eligibility is maintained, there is no age limit or maximum number of attempts. Qualifying NEET is also required for Indian students doing MBBS overseas and intending to practice in India.

Early preparation based on NCERT textbooks provides a solid foundation, which is enhanced with mock tests and analysis of high-value topics such as human physiology and genetics. Consistent practice with old papers aids time management, while checking official changes on the NTA’s website ensures awareness of important dates such as application deadlines and exam days. Balanced study practices help to prevent burnout during this extremely competitive exam.
