NEET PG

Navigating NEET PG in India

NEET PG, or the National Eligibility and Entrance Test for Postgraduate Courses, is the nationwide exam for admission to MD, MS, DNB, and other postgraduate medical programs in India. It is administered by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) and assures a merit-based selection process for both government and private institutions.

Exam Format

The exam is computer-based and contains 200 multiple-choice questions divided into five timed sessions of 40 questions each, totaling 3.5 hours. Each segment has 42 minutes and advances automatically, with +4 marks for right answers and -1 for incorrect ones. Questions focus on clinical scenarios (60-70%), image-based cases (20-25%), and topics such as General Medicine (40-45 questions) and Surgery (35-40).

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must hold an MBBS degree, have completed a one-year required rotating internship before the application deadline, and be registered permanently or provisionally with the Medical Council of India or state councils. Foreign medical graduates must satisfy the FMGE screening test. There are no attempt limitations, although the exam is given once a year.

Preparation Tips

Prioritize high-yield clinical subjects by referring to standard textbooks such as Harrison’s for Medicine and Bailey’s for Surgery, as well as recent question banks and practice examinations that simulate timed sections. Analyze previous papers for patterns in case-based questions and keep a disciplined revision plan that focuses on integrated subjects. Stay up to date with NBEMS notifications dates, which are due around July-August.

TNEA - Anna University Counseling in Tamil Nadu

Anna University counseling, largely through TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions), handles admissions to BE/BTech programs in government, aided colleges, and university departments purely on the basis of Class 12 results. The Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) manages this online single-window system, which ensures fair distribution for Tamil Nadu residents and qualified others.

Counseling Stages

The procedure includes registration, document upload, random number assignment, rank list release, and many rounds of choice filling with seat allocation. Candidates verify their certificates at Facilitation Centres (TFCs), then confirm their allotments online before reporting to their respective colleges with payments. For vacant seats, supplementary and special category rounds take place after main counseling.

Key Eligibility and Dates

Native Tamil Nadu students who complete Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (minimum 45% aggregate for OC, relaxed for reserved) qualify automatically. Registration for 2026 begins in early May, with counseling beginning in June; detailed schedules are available at tneaonline.org

Tips for Success

Prioritize selections based on previous years’ cutoff trends, check rank lists on a daily basis, and choose intelligently between “accept and join,” “accept and upward,” and “reject” during allocation. To avoid delays, prepare originals such as 10th and 12th grade marksheets, community and birthplace certificates for TFC verification.
